Philosophy of Education

Education

Education is an important part of any society and the budget of many countries is often dedicated to it. Most teachers have college degrees in education. The goal of education is to develop the human mind and shape the society for the future. My brother was interested in education and decided to pursue a career in the field. Then he decided to study to become a teacher.

Philosophy of education

The philosophy of education relates to the way in which knowledge and ideas are acquired. There are many schools of thought in the field. For example, the Realism school of thought is associated with the idea that there is a physical world that separates human perception from the world of spirit. This idea has led to the “blank slate” concept of human capability. Meanwhile, the Pragmatism school emphasizes the use of experimentalism to choose ideas that produce the best outcome. This school is associated with John Dewey and is one of the most influential thinkers in the philosophy of education.

Purposes of education

As an educator, one of your primary roles is to teach children about the purpose of education. This purpose is to prepare people to be responsible citizens who contribute to society. There are several ways to fulfill this purpose. These include providing students with basic skills to succeed in life, enabling them to access jobs and further education, and teaching them about the environment.

Formal vs. non-formal education

A distinction can be drawn between formal and non-formal education. The former is primarily intended to provide a learning environment that fosters student participation. The latter can be much more flexible and can react to the changing needs of students.

Inca education vs. highly formalized training for nobility

In ancient Peru, the Incas separated two types of education: vocational education for commoners and highly formalized training for nobility. The lower class learned to farm and build roads, while the upper class studied various sciences and performed military service. The vast majority of people learned to use practical tools in the household with their parents. The Incas also emphasized the importance of family and did not allow social climbing.

Homeschooling as non-formal or informal

Homeschooling is a way to educate your child without the formality of a traditional school. It has many benefits. Some parents choose it because it allows them to spend more time with their children. Others choose it because they feel that the public school system is unsuitable for their children.
