Entertainment means engaging the attention agreeably and amusing or diverting it, either in private as by conversation etc., or in public by performances of some kind, such as an opera, movie, concert, etc. The experience may be enjoyable or it may serve a more serious purpose such as in ceremonies, festivals, and religious rituals or in the various forms of satire or propaganda. Entertainment also may have a visual or aesthetic effect as with art, design, architecture or fashion. Enter, penetrate, pierce and probe all mean to make a way into something. The most general is enter, which also carries a force of impelling power or compelling power.
