What Is Technology?

Surgical technology

Programs may be offered by community colleges, universities, and military medical programs. Surgical technology programs generally last twelve to fourteen weeks. Graduates receive a certificate and may be required to take a certification exam to be eligible to practice.
While some programs require you to live in a particular location, other programs offer courses that can be completed online. To be eligible to enroll in a Surgical Technology program, you must be a resident of the state in which you intend to practice. Although some programs may have online components, you cannot complete the entire program through distance education. If you plan to move out of state, it is important to discuss this decision with the Program Director and Student Services Coordinator.
